FEATURED GROWER
Kris Wolosuk
Hi, my name is Kris Wolosuk and my farm name is D. Wolosuk Farms. Currently I farm in the Vauxhall area and I have been farming for 25 years.
Our family has been involved in agriculture for five generations. The fifth generation is just starting to farm now.
We grow sugar beets, wheat, seed canola, beans and potatoes.
I grow sugar beets because it is a good cash crop and it is a vital part of our farming operation. With Roundup ready technology, growing sugar beets has become more profitable and less labor intensive.
I would say my goal would be to keep the farm in our family for many future generations. I want to give my kids the opportunity to farm like I was given.
I always had an interest in farming since I was a young kid. It is a great lifestyle and the idea of owning and operating my own business appealed to me. It is also a great environment for raising a family.
I have two sons that are back on the farm with me. My dad also helps during seeding and harvest. My wife does our books and takes care of the farm safety and CanadaGAP paperwork. I have a son in high school who is also showing interest in farming as well.
I enjoy camping with family and friends. I also really enjoy hot rodding and cruising in my car.
John Deere is my tractor of choice. John Deere makes a good reliable and comfortable tractor. Resale value is also very strong and service in Taber at Western Tractor is very good. No matter what brand of tractor you have, they all break down, so you must have a dealer that stands behind their product.
